Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan today visited two sporting facilities in Portland, recently upgraded thanks to investments by the Morrison Government.
Portland Colts Cricket received $2,500 under the Stronger Communities Programme to replace paving and wooden steps at the cricket club.
The works have increased the amenity and safety of the Henty Park area for both sportspeople and also visitors camping at the precinct.
Mr Tehan said this project ensured that the facilities catered to not only the local community but also to visiting tourists, adding to the amenity of the area.
I congratulate the volunteers that have worked hard to deliver this project, and I recognise that projects, both big and small, can all add to the community’s vibrancy.
The second project to be awarded funding of $485,000 was the redevelopment of the netball courts at Alexandra Park through the Community Development Grants Programme and as part of the Alexandra Park Master Plan.
The funding has helped build a first-class netball facility including two courts and lighting for the Westerns Football Netball Club.
Mr Tehan said he was delighted to see the finished project and hear from the committee and players the positive impact the redevelopment has had on the community.
The updated courts have enabled the hosting of social netball games and other modified forms of the sport, enabling a wider range of people to be active and participate in community sport.
Mr Tehan said both of these projects are great for local communities. They encourage greater physical activity and create a wonderful local community spirit. I am always very happy to support great local projects that build that sense of community spirit and get regional people involved in sport.”
