Stawell Primary School and Dennington Community Association in Wannon will soon receive funding support for their commemorative projects.
Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan said Dennington Community Association had received $9,600 and Stawell Primary School had received $2,000 funding under the Government’s Saluting Their Service (STS) grants program to help commemorate Australian wartime history.
“Wannon has a proud military background and the actions of Dennington Community Association and Stawell Primary School contribute to preserving that history for future generations,” Mr Tehan said.
The project undertaken by the Dennington Community Association will update the Dennington memorial to include the names of 78 local service personnel who served in the Second World War.
Stawell Primary School will use their funding to supply and install three flagpoles at the school.
“I would like to congratulate both Dennington Community Association and Stawell Primary School for their successful grant submissions, and encourage other organisations in our community of Wannon to get involved in future rounds and consider submitting an application for any upcoming projects,” Mr Tehan said.
Organisations across Australia shared in more than $1.2 million to fund projects that will assist with ensuring the commemoration of our current and former Australian Defence Force personnel continues.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs administers the STS grants. Applications for the next round of STS grants is now open.
