Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan today attended the 2021 Australian Farmer of the Year Awards at Parliament House.
Mr Tehan said, “he was delighted to attend the event and extended his sincere congratulations to Kathryn Robertson of Strathkellar in being awarded the ‘Rural Community Leader of the Year’.”
“Kathryn has made the entire Wannon community proud on the national stage. We know it has been a tough year, but Kathryn has shone through and is an inspiration for those wanting to become involved in the agricultural sector,” said Mr Tehan
“I also congratulate all winners and nominees of this year’s Australian Farmer of the Year Awards for their commitment to agriculture which in turn supports the future success of Australia’s agriculture industries.
A strong and vibrant agricultural sector will continue to help secure Australia’s recovery from the pandemic, and it is great to see all these people who have such a passion for our agriculture sector and rural communities being celebrated.
During the awards Kathryn was acknowledged as being a vibrant community leader, who continues to revolutionise the role of women in the agricultural sector. She inspires women of all ages through her exemplary leadership in roles that were once traditionally always occupied by men.
Along with her father, Kathryn runs her family’s mixed farming enterprise near Hamilton and runs her own livestock vet business.
She is currently the president of Sheepvention, and her passion for serving her local community also extends to her voluntary role as Captain of the Strathkellar Fire Brigade.
Kathryn is a fine example of a young rural leader, who is passionate about her local community and advocating for the Australian agricultural & veterinary sectors.
