Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan is delighted to announce that nominations for the Wannon Sport and Volunteer Awards are now open.
Mr Tehan said that the awards are a wonderful way to say thank you to the outstanding members of the Wannon community whose actions, achievements and efforts make a positive difference in our region.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, last year's awards were cancelled. However, I am determined to host the awards this year to recognise and thank those individuals or groups who contribute their time and energy for the good of our community, said Mr Tehan.
The Sport Awards recognise and highlight outstanding sporting performances, achievements, and contributions by community members.
Nominators for the Sports Awards are invited to nominate an individual or team in the following categories:
• Primary School - Individual or Team Achievement
• Secondary School - Individual or Team Achievement
• Open - Individual or Team Achievement
• Member of Parliament
The Volunteer Awards recognise and celebrate individual and group volunteers who have made an exceptional contribution and who go beyond for their local communities.
“Volunteers in Wannon are the fabric of our communities, and during the Covid-19 pandemic they have continued to support their local communities from assisting vulnerable groups to providing essential services and supporting our front-line workers, in often difficult circumstances,” said Mr Tehan.
I am encouraging the community to nominate the volunteers who make exceptional contributions to our community, with nominations open in the following categories:
• Young Volunteer
• Emergency Management
• Other (education, environment)
• Member of Parliament Award
Nominations for the 2021 Awards are open until Sunday 24th October, with the awards celebration taking place during November.
