Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, today visited the Terang RSL Sub-Branch to congratulate them on their successful application under the Stronger Communities Programme.
Terang RSL Sub-Branch applied for $5,217 in Round 8 of the Stronger Communities Programme to upgrade its security system, including cameras.
Mr Tehan said, “he was delighted to announce that the Terang RSL Sub-Branch being a wonderful community organisation that helped build community spirit, encouraged visitors to the region and commemorated those men and women who have served our nation and defended our interests so that we can enjoy the many freedoms we have today”.
“The security cameras will play a vital role in deterring crime and cracking down on anti-social behaviour, and helping police catch offenders.
The Stronger Communities Programme is a vital program that supports our local community groups and assisted with small capital projects that contribute to building vibrant and viable communities, said Mr Tehan.
Unfortunately, in this year’s Labor Government budget papers, I have confirmed that this wonderful community program has been terminated.
This is devastating news once again as our rural and regional communities bear the brunt of Labor’s razor gang and is on top of the recently announced road funding budget cuts.
In Wannon, over 150 community projects have been funded through the programme, and I am disheartened that groups such as Terang RSL Sub-Branch no longer have this funding opportunity.
That is why in the Coalition’s Budget Reply, the Opposition Leader announced policies that will strengthen our society and our local communities, including programmes such as the Stronger Communities Programme.
