Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, calls on junior sports people across Wannon competing at an elite or sub-elite level competition to apply for funding under the Local Sporting Champions grant program.
Mr Tehan said Local Sporting Champions, managed by the Australian Sports Commission, was an important initiative for our talented young sportspeople and their families.
With the increasing cost-of-living, these grants will assist in alleviating travel and participation costs for our young sports people, said Mr Tehan.
It’s so important to support our young people to be physically active and be part of an inclusive sport environment. Our sporting environment gives individuals positive social and health outcomes, so everything we can do to remove those barriers is vital, said Mr Tehan.
Local Sporting Champions (LSC) is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international competitions.
The program supports families in meeting the costs associated with attending sporting competitions, such as competition entry fees, travel, accommodation, uniforms, or equipment.
Funding starts at $500 per grant, with additional provisions for longer-distance travel and applicants residing in a rural electorate like Wannon.
