State Government passes the buck on roads

Minister for Roads and Roads Safety, Melissa Horne, came to south west Victoria recently and did herself no credit by passing the buck on the Princes Highway.

When the Coalition was in government, we allocated $60 million to repair the Warrnambool to Port Fairy stretch of the Princes Highway. What has the State Government done with that money?

Minister Horne then misled the community by stating she had nothing to do with the funding.

Significantly, what she also omitted to say is that since the Albanese Labor Government was elected, they have reduced the Federal Government’s commitment to contribute 80 cents for every dollar invested in that stretch of the Princes Highway to 50 cents. They have also cut the maintenance budget for all country roads in Victoria by two thirds. That’s why we haven’t seen any improvements carried out on the Princes Highway for the last two years.
