Cutting the Cost of Living

People in Wannon are doing it tough because of Labor’s cost-of-living crisis. Since Labor won the election in 2022, the price of everything has gone up 10 per cent. Under Labor:

  • Gas is up 33 per cent;
  • Electricity is up 14 per cent (even after taxpayer funded rebates);
  • Rents are up 16 per cent;
  • Health is up 11%; Education is up 11%;
  • Food is up 12%;
  • Fruit and vegetable prices have seen their highest rise since December 2022.;
  • And Financial and insurance up 17%.

And after Labor's 12 interest rate hikes, Wannon small businesses continue to do it tough while homeowners with a typical mortgage are worse off.

Australians are paying more, including at the checkout, the petrol pump and on their bills due to Labor’s failed economic management.

If the Government had done the right thing over the course of the last three budgets, there would be downward pressure on inflation and interest rates would already be lower.

The Coalition’s plan

The Coalition will get Australia back on track with a back to basics economic plan. We are committed to restoring fiscal discipline.

We've been making the tough calls all along through this term of parliament. We have opposed billions in legislated spending, including:

  • the National Reconstruction Fund;
  • the Housing Australia Future Fund;
  • and the Future Made in Australia slush fund.

Under Labor, there has been an additional $315 billion of spending. This is not the kind of restraint that is required while inflation is still too high. Families are showing restraint, they have to.

Labor lacks restraint because it’s not their money.
