Australians facing a $300 hike to their electricity bill will be asking Chris Bowen: where is the $275 cut to my bill that you promised?
Climate Change and Energy Minister Bowen today announced that next year the Labor Government would be delivering “a reformed pricing mechanism”.
A “reformed pricing mechanism” in a year’s time is zero comfort to the hundreds of thousands of Australians hit with another electricity bill hike.
The Australian Energy Regulator says the proportion of Australians entering energy retailer hardship programs continues to increase.
The average debt of customers on hardship programs has increased over the past 12 months from $1,685 to $1,947.
Minister Bowen is taking no responsibility for the electricity price hikes happening on his watch.
Inflation, high interest rates, higher transmission costs in NSW, coal generator and network outages, and an ideologically driven renewables only approach all contributed to the electricity price hikes, but what is Minister Bowen doing about that?
