The latest quarterly update of Australia’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (March 2025) has dealt another blow to Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s credibility by clearly stating; “Annual emissions have remained relatively flat at the national level in recent years.” (Page 9)
This update comes as more experts and commentators warn Australia will not meet its 2030 emissions reduction target.
Recently Frank Jotzo, Professor of Environmental and Climate Change Economics at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy said “We’re sitting at minus 28 per cent or thereabouts and we have been sitting at that for the last three years. Emissions are just moving sideways”.
Today, former ACTU President and Labor Member for Throsby, Jennie George said, “While Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen claims his policies are working, and on track to deliver Labor’s targets, his spin can’t hide an inconvenient truth. Expert opinion and the evidence provide no basis for his confidence. Labor’s 2030 targets won’t be met.”
Under Chris Bowen we are seeing electricity and gas prices going up and emissions flatlining and there is no plan to fix it.
During the last election campaign Chris Bowen walked away from his plan that was going to deliver a $275 reduction in electricity prices by the end of 2025 and a $378 cut and 604,000 green energy jobs by 2030.
Chris Bowen is overseeing a total mess that just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
