Member for Wannon Dan Tehan will once again participate in the Port Fairy Marathon and Community Running Festival taking place on Sunday 22 February 2026.

The festival, which primarily raises funds for the Port Fairy Consolidated School, partners with SYNGAP Research Fund Australia.

Founded in 2016, the fund is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by SYNGAP, a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder with no known cure.

In 2018, Port Fairy locals Kelda and Josh Ind joined the SYNGAP Research Fund Australia team when their daughter Hannah was diagnosed with the disease.

Competing in the half marathon event, Mr Tehan has pledged to donate $2.00 to Syngap for every runner who beats his son Ollie who is also running the half marathon, and $1.00 for every runner who finishes between he and Ollie.

‘Last year I ended up contributing $215 to Syngap,’ said Mr Tehan, ‘including $10 for someone dressed as a banana!’

Mr Tehan said he was proud to support the SYNGAP Research Fund Australia and the local families who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funding for research.

“Events like the Port Fairy Marathon show the strength of our community,” Mr Tehan said. “It’s not just about running, it’s about getting behind families facing incredibly tough challenges and helping drive progress towards better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.”

Mr Tehan encouraged locals and visitors alike to get involved, whether by running, volunteering or cheering participants on.

“I’d love to see another great turnout this year,” he said. “Every step taken on the day helps make a real difference for SYNGAP families here in Port Fairy and right across Australia.”
