From my desk - with Federal MP Dan Tehan

Welcome back to my monthly column. If you have any questions for me, send them to editorial@hamiltonspectator.com.au and I’ll do my best to answer them next month.

It’s wonderful news that the Hamilton Spectator lives on and will continue its important work.

The survival of this paper is more than just about preserving a publication, it’s about maintaining a vital link to the history, identity and heritage of our community.

Local journalism plays an irreplaceable role in our lives, acting as both a mirror and a record of our community. It tells the stories of our successes and struggles and gives a voice to the people and groups who shape our lives.

The Spec is also a thread that connects generations. The local stories of sporting triumphs, community events, natural disasters and other tragedies, ensure that our history is remembered instead of fading away.

In today’s world, where global news dominates so much of what we consume, the importance of reliable and accessible local news can’t be overstated. Papers like the Spec bridge the gap between the broader world and the small, everyday stories that are the heartbeat of our community, and they instil a sense of pride in where we live.

The continuity of the Spec is not just a win for journalism but a victory for our community because it means that our stories, big and small, will carry on being told.
