Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan today joined Trawalla community members and Pyrenees Shire Council to view restoration works to the Trawalla Hall. The project was successful in attracting $20,000 in funding under the Stronger Communities Programme.
Works undertaken as part of the project included replacing the existing roof and spouting and an upgrade to the electrical wiring.
The restoration works will ensure that the hall is safe and secure for the community. With the restoration works completed the hall can once again provide a venue for social connection between all community members.
“Funding for projects like the Trawalla Hall, will not only restore the building but it will also encourage the community to come together and rebuild their connections and resilience post the pandemic”, said Mr Tehan.
“I congratulate all the volunteers that have worked so hard to deliver this vitally important project to the Trawalla community”, said Mr Tehan.
Catherine Tweddle, Secretary of the Trawalla Hall Committee, thanked Mr Tehan for his support of the project and investment into the Trawalla community. Without this government assistance, a project such as this would not be possible for a small community group such as ours.
I would also like to thank Pyrenees Shire Council for their incredible support in assisting us with this vitally important community project. Goldwind-Stockyard Hill Windfarm also provided financial assistance from their Community Investment funding opportunity, said Ms Tweddle.
“The gathering today, although small in number is just the beginning of community events for Trawalla both great and small”, said Ms Tweddle.
The benefits for the local community are far reaching and ensure that a vital asset to our locality continues to be a much-needed community resource.
“Our local halls are central to our communities. They’re the places we catch up with each other, celebrate each other and our community,” Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor Councillor Ron Eason said.
“To make sure we can keep our community halls open, accessible and safe for our communities means we keep our social connections going and our central meeting point available for many years to come,” Mr Eason said.
