New revelations about the safety of the Albanese Labor Government’s $8.5 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program on 7.30 tonight are deeply concerning.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Government’s flagship battery subsidy program has been infiltrated by dodgy installers and that there are insufficient consumer protections in place.

Instead of protecting Australians accessing this scheme, Chris Bowen has been focused on two things: spin and spending. 

The Opposition has led scrutiny of this scheme, which was rushed out so quickly that the Clean Energy Regulator was asked to fund it as well as supervise it. 

In May, I wrote to Auditor General and requested that scheme be audited. 

Tonight’s revelations should prompt urgent action. 

The Government should launch an immediate safety audit into the scheme and update the public on the status of the new consumer protections the ACCC recommended in July.
