Statement
According to media reports this morning, Labor is cooking up a new electricity tax.
There are now plans to include the cost of 14,000 new electric vehicle charging stations onto Australians’ electricity bills.
Taxpayers do not fund the construction of new petrol stations, so why should they be slugged for electric vehicle charging stations?
Labor’s latest electricity tax is completely inconsistent with the National Electricity Objectives, which are about efficient investment and operation of electricity services for the long-term interests of consumers.
Labor promised to cut power bills by $275, but instead prices are up nearly 40 per cent.
It beggars belief that during a cost of living crisis the Government will add more power bill pain onto families.
Chris Bowen needs to come out today and rule out this new tax on electricity bills.
