Fresh concerns raised over Bowen’s batteries

STATEMENT

Fresh revelations in The Australian today about the cost, safety and reliability of the Albanese Labor Government’s $8.5 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program are deeply concerning.

Australians who have accessed this battery subsidy should be able to operate their battery system with peace of mind.

The exact opposite is occurring: complaints to the ACCC have surged by more than 107 per cent and the ACCC itself has found “gaps” in current consumer protections.

As at 30 June 2026, 62 per cent of all inspected home batteries have been found to be substandard.

Once again, I am calling on Chris Bowen to immediately establish a comprehensive safety audit into this program.
