Reports this morning in The Australian of deep-seated industry concern with the prospect of having to face an even harsher Safeguard Mechanism must be heeded by Chris Bowen.
It is becoming clearer by the day that the Government’s review into the Safeguard Mechanism, a punitive carbon tax, is being used as a launchpad for other sneaky new carbon taxes.
The review includes consideration of a ‘carbon border adjustment mechanism’ – effectively a new tax on imports that would raise the cost of goods Australians get from overseas.
Labor’s carbon taxes are already driving manufacturers to the wall: billions of taxpayers money is being used to bail out Tomago and Whyalla, among many others.
Instead of hurting industry with taxes as Labor is doing, the Coalition will scrap Net Zero, axe Labor’s carbon taxes and unlock our critical resources.
