Better Roads, Rail and Air

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local communities. (Only the roads component of this funding is listed on this page.)

YEAR PROJECT AG FUNDING
2021
(Phase 3)
Delivery of local road priority projects $292,400
* Forest Street and Colanda Street- Colac Forrest Road - reconstruction of pavement and asphalt surfacing, kerb and channel replacement and drainage improvements
2020
(Phase 2)
Delivery of local road priority projects $674,316
* Bass Crescent, Great Ocean Road, Skenes Creek - stormwater outlet upgrade to manage road erosion
* Birregurra rail interface upgrade
2020
(Phase 1)
Delivery of local road priority projects $1,313,000
 * Speeding vehicles currently pose a safety risk to children accessing the Specialist School in Wilson Street, Colac. Students aged 5-18 with special needs and their carers currently use the crossing daily during school term. Cars and heavy vehicles use this local road as a shortcut between the C155 (Colac-Lavers Hill Road) and Queen Street (north-south collector road). The installation of speed humps on either side of the crossing aims to slow vehicles and deter heavy vehicles, generally improving pedestrian safety in this area.
 * Station Street, Forrest - construction of new kerb and channel and associated drainage
 * Road repairs at the main entry and emergency entry and nearby roundabout at Colac Hospital
 * Swan Marsh - safety at night or in foggy circumstances will be greatly improved through roadside delineation, the advantage of a sealed surface, and the addition of solid edge lines. Routine maintenance of the unsealed surface (maintenance grading) will be substantially reduced – shoulders will still require periodic maintenance.
