The hubs will work collaboratively with health services, medical colleges and other medical and education training stakeholders to align training opportunities, and provide support for medical students and trainees in their region.

  • The key activities of the hubs will be to work together with specialist medical colleges, regional training organisations, state and territory governments and accrediting bodies to build training capacity by supporting clinical supervisors and assisting health services to accredit new postgraduate training posts.
    Supporting high quality rural health training is a way for the Australian Government to make a measurable impact on addressing the maldistribution of the rural health workforce. Ths incorporates fundign support for:
    ** Regional training hubs under the Integrated Rural Training Pipeline for Medicine initiative

In the 2015-2016 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook, the government announced a significant increase in investment through the RHMT program. This included an expansion to multidisciplinary training by almost doubling the funding to UDRHs and providing funding to establish three new UDRHs. It also included funding for the regional training hubs component of the Integrated Rural Training Pipeline for Medicine (IRTP) to be based at RHMT program sites.
