One in four people aged 16 to 24 experiences some form of mental illness every year and three-quarters of all mental illness manifests in people under the age of 25. Intervention at the earliest possible stage is important to reduce the duration and impact. Colac headspace was announced during the campaign as one of an additional six funded sites Colac was announced to be a full Centre
- Funding over 4 years (commencing this FY 19/20) totals $3.5m. Funding of projects with funding in 18/19 was the priority of the department leading up to 30th June
- Funds for headspace sites are provided to Primary Health Networks (PHN). In this case Western Victorian (WVPHN) will take responsibility for the commissioning of the Colac headspace site. WVPHN will seek tenders to choose a lead agency. Once selected the lead agency will be required to find an appropriate headspace site, fit it out and more importantly secure the necessary staff to deliver a quality service.This process will possibly take up to 12 months.
