The Senate has agreed to a Coalition motion to release a major report into the dire financial situation of the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project.
Earlier this week, the Senate passed an Order for the Production of Documents requiring the Minister for Climate Change and Energy to release the report by midday, Monday 26 October 2026.
Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Dan Tehan said the Albanese Labor Government was keeping the report secret.
“It’s unacceptable that an independent report into Labor’s disastrous mismanagement of Snowy Hydro still has not been made public,” Mr Tehan said.
In June this year, the Auditor-General found that even despite a project “reset” in mid-2023, the project was still “facing delays, cost increases and problems with delivery” with “management of the project” only “partly effective”, resulting in an “increasing risk” to overall cost and delivery.
By contrast, a 2022 Auditor-General report found that, under the Coalition, early management of Snowy Hydro 2.0 was “effective”, with the project’s budget “tracking in line with planned expenditure.”
