Home / Media Releases / ADDITIONAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR STORMS

Disaster assistance is now available for communities in the Glenelg Shire, City of Ballarat, East Gippsland Shire, and Moorabool Shire that have been affected by the Victorian floods and storms from 5 January 2022 under the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

This is in addition to assistance already being provided in Hepburn Shire.

Dan Tehan, Member for Wannon said the DRFA will assist residents with damaged properties, councils with the costs of road and infrastructure repairs and clean-up, and recovery efforts in affected communities.

“The severe weather storm event had damaging winds, large hailstones and flash flooding that left extensive debris and damaged a number of properties,” Mr Tehan said.

“This financial support will provide for immediate recovery needs for people whose homes or belongings have been damaged and will help people get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

“Support is also being made available to assist local councils with the costs of the restoration of essential public assets. I encourage anyone affected to apply.”

Affected local councils should contact Emergency Management Victoria via email
ndfa@emv.vic.gov.au to discuss the availability of assistance.

Information on disaster assistance is available on the Australian Government’s website at
www.disasterassist.gov.au and the Vic Emergency website www.emergency.vic.gov.au/relief.
