A STRUGGLE UNDER LABOR'S BROKEN PROMISES

Home / Opinions / A STRUGGLE UNDER LABOR'S BROKEN PROMISES

In the Wannon electorate, residents are feeling the weight of broken promises and economic mismanagement 18 months into Anthony Albanese's Labor term. The pledge of a $275 reduction in power bills, cheaper mortgages, and improved family finances has given way to a stark reality of rising costs and unfulfilled commitments.

The cost of living in Wannon has surged over the past 15 months, with electricity prices escalating by up to 18% and gas costs soaring by 28%. Australia’s inflation surpasses almost every major advanced economy and is exacerbated by Labor's economic and energy policies.

Labor's increase in spending of $188 billion over the next five years is only further fuelling inflation and contributing to a concerning 6.6% fall in productivity. Yet Labor keeps putting union bosses' demands ahead of our small businesses.

Wannon residents are grappling not only with the rising cost of electricity but also with the highest interest rates since 2011 and the steepest increase in rents since 2009. As housing affordability becomes an increasing concern, Labor's plan to bring in 1.5 million more people over five years, coupled with infrastructure cuts, adds to the strain.

The consequences are clear across Australia, including Wannon, where disposable household income has recorded the biggest fall among developed countries.

Australians are paying the price for Labor's bad decisions, with families facing record-high electricity prices, up to $1000 more on their bills annually.

Labor is focussing on the wrong priorities, and the Coalition is determined to hold the government accountable for its breaches of faith.

Opposition to Labor's actions, mainly those negatively impacting the economy, is a focal point. Support for our farmers, small businesses, and domestic manufacturers is a priority as we seek to deliver prosperity within the electorate.

The Coalition also continues to deliver on its promise to support policies in the country's best interests.

Looking to the future, only the Coalition seeks to ease the household burden, including enabling pensioners and veterans to work more without affecting their entitlements and supporting first-home buyers to access superannuation for their initial home investment.

The people of Wannon deserve and can look towards a future where their concerns are addressed and promises are kept. We know that the Coalition has a strong record in government with lower power prices, interest rates, unemployment, taxes, and secure borders, positioning Australia in a more robust economic position than any major advanced economy.

In particular, the Coalition led by Peter Dutton is ensuring there is a solid alternative to Anthony Albanese and Labor at the next election.
