Member for Wannon Dan Tehan has welcomed a new Regional University Study Hub that will be established at South West TAFE Hamilton.
Mr Tehan provided $39 million to establish Regional Study Hubs at 23 locations across Australia when he was Education Minister in 2018. The program has continued with bipartisan support and the Hamilton Study Hub will be funded through a $66.9 million investment in ten new hubs.
Regional University Study Hubs provide support to students attending university remotely, through access to study spaces, computer facilities and video conferencing as well as administrative and academic support.
Mr Tehan said the establishment of study hub at South West TAFE would support students from Hamilton and the Southern Grampians Shire.
“Every Australian, no matter where they live, should have access to Australia’s world-leading higher education system,” Mr Tehan said.
“Our local students deserve the support they need to succeed in their studies and the establishment of this study hub is testament to the advocacy work done by our community.
Country Universities Centre Southern Grampians chairperson Michael Byrne said: “This is a great outcome following long term and dedicated community advocacy. A huge thank you to our local Member for Parliament, Dan Tehan. During Dan’s tenure as Minister for Education, he expanded the Regional Study Hubs program nationwide.
“We are excited about the opportunities this will provide everyone across the region.”
Capital and refurbishment works to be undertaken at Hamilton’s South West TAFE will include dedicated study areas, a communal cohort space, kitchen facilities and dedicated IT and support infrastructure to ensure high level access and digital connectivity.
