Today’s CPI figures and the Greenhouse Gas Inventory figures show that the Albanese Government’s energy policies are simply not working and are costing all Australians.
Once again Australian’s are facing increased energy bills as electricity costs rose 32.2% in the 12 months to January 2026 which is an increase from a 21.5% rise in the 12 months to December 2025.
These figures show quite clearly that the promise by Chris Bowen and Anthony Albanese to reduce your power bill by $275 is one of the great Labor lies of all time.
The latest Quarterly Update of Australia’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory show that despite the billions of taxpayers’ dollars spent by the Albanese Government that Australia’s emission reductions have basically flatlined.
These Greenhouse figures are further proof that Chris Bowen will not meet his 2030 emission reduction target of 43% below the 2005 base year.
When the Coalition left office emissions reductions were 27.3% and now today, they stand at 27.4% below the base line of 2005.
Emissions for the year to September 2025 are just 0.8 million tonnes less than they were when we left government.
The Climate Change Authority has advised that an 18mt reduction is needed each year to deliver on the 43% reduction by 2030 and as much as 25mt per year to deliver on the Government’s 70% target for 2035.
It is time that Chris Bowen, the part-time Energy Minister, is honest with the Australian public and details exactly how much his energy and emission reduction policies are costing the Australian taxpayer.
