Construction of pedestrian and cycling bridge and paths - Colac
Colac Otway

$390,000

Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Phase 1

In 2016 a pedestrian bridge that forms part of the Barongarook Creek Shared Trail was washed away by flood waters. The bridge connection forms a critical off-road link for users of the Barongarook Creek shared trail and, once completed, will provide a continuous, 1.3 kilometre off-road walking and cycling connection from the Coles on Bromfield Street and the Visitor Information Centre on the corner of Murray and Queen Streets, via picnic/toilet facilities and a recently constructed Traditional Owner memorial space to Lake Colac. If the bridge is not replaced, pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists are diverted 360 metres via a car park, up to busy Murray Street (Princes Highway) and must cross at traffic lights and journey along Murray Street to arrive at the continuation of the shared path.
