New evidence has emerged that if Wannon constituents want to stop the offshore windfarm off the coast of Warrnambool and Port Fairy, they must vote Liberal this Saturday.
Liberal MP for Wannon Dan Tehan said, “the Albanese Labor Government, with the support of the Greens and Teals, is refusing to release critical information about this project.”
Despite repeated requests from the Coalition to hold public hearings and despite two deadline extensions, the Senate committee—chaired by Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and Labor Deputy Chair Senator Karen Grogan—has so far refused to conduct any hearings.
“It’s outrageous that the committee has once again delayed its report which was originally due last week,” said Mr Tehan.
“The new reporting date is now set for 5 June 2025, conveniently after the federal election.
“This is a deliberate attempt by the committee to avoid scrutiny and accountability to the affected communities.”
The Senate Inquiry on Offshore Wind Industry Consultation Process has highlighted disturbing evidence of the Albanese Government’s disregard for coastal communities.
Submissions have revealed that residents were not properly informed about consultation sessions; unions were enlisted to encourage only positive submissions; briefings were held at limited and inconvenient times and locations; senior citizens were reportedly discouraged from submitting feedback in writing; key community questions were left unanswered; and environmental, economic, and social concerns were routinely ignored.
“This move by the committee undermines transparency and leaves local communities without the accountability they deserve, while the process itself has completely failed the very people it was meant to consult, said Mr Tehan.
