An elected Coalition Government will invest $1.5 million to support the construction of a new Community Sports Hub at Gardens Reserve in Port Fairy, providing modern facilities for local athletes and the wider community.

Liberal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, said the project would ensure Port Fairy has a state-of-the-art sporting hub to accommodate the town’s growing population and encourage greater participation in sport and recreation.

“Sport is at the heart of regional life, bringing people together to play, stay active and strengthen their community connections,” Mr Tehan said.

“This investment will deliver a modern, purpose-built facility that supports Port Fairy’s growth and creates an inclusive sporting environment for people of all ages, genders and abilities.”

Port Fairy Football Netball Club President, Rob Evans, welcomed the commitment, calling it a significant boost for the club and the broader community.

“The $1.5 million commitment from Dan and the Liberal Party enables our club to move forward and to move closer to bringing our dream to reality,” Mr. Evans said.

“This project will give us a top-notch regional facility with modern amenities, making it easier for people of all ages, genders and abilities to get involved. Our club is all about bringing the community together through sport, health and well-being, so we couldn’t be more excited about this announcement.”
Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr. Karen Foster, also welcomed the funding commitment, recognising the long-standing need for upgraded facilities.

“This funding will go a long way towards bring a long-awaited vision to life,” Cr. Foster said.

“When completed, the pavilion will be a focal point for the football and netball clubs and the wider community, offering a modern space for events and facilities that cater to an increasingly diverse sporting landscape.

“This is an important project for the football netball club community, and it’s fantastic to see it getting the attention it deserves.”

The $1.5 million investment from an elected Coalition Government will fund a third of the $4.5 million overall project cost, alongside contributions from the State Government and Moyne Shire Council.

Backing regional sport and building stronger communities

Only Dan Tehan and the Coalition have a plan to build a strong economy and invest in Wannon’s future, ensuring regional communities have the sporting infrastructure they need to thrive.
