Households, farms and businesses in Wannon will get cheaper energy under the Coalition’s National Gas Plan.

An elected Coalition Government will immediately create an East Coast Gas Reservation scheme that will require a proportion of exports to be diverted to the domestic market, as part of its National Gas Plan. This will address shortfalls and reduce energy prices for Australians.

The Coalition’s plan will deliver between 50-100 petajoules of additional gas to the market —equivalent to adding a further 10-20 per cent of current domestic demand. We will also ensure that the price for this gas is decoupled from volatile international markets through the introduction of a gas security incentive.

According to independent advice, the additional supply, complemented by the entire National Gas Plan, will progressively deliver savings of:

  • 15% on industrial customer retail gas bills
  • 7% on residential customer retail gas bills
  • 8% on wholesale electricity prices
  • 3% on residential retail electricity bills

Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said the Coalition would deliver affordable and reliable energy.

“Families, businesses and farms in Wannon have been smashed by some of the highest energy prices in the world since the Albanese Labor Government was elected,” Mr Tehan said.

“Under Labor, household gas prices have increased by 34% over the past 3 years. The Coalition will use Australian gas to help lower the energy bills for Australians. Reducing the cost of energy in a cost-of-living crisis will help ease the burden on families, farms and businesses in Wannon.

“Energy prices will always be cheaper under a Coalition Government.”
